DESIGN EXCHANGE NATIONAL AWARDS COMPETITION NOW OPEN FOR PROJECT SUBMISSION

Toronto, Canada (June 14, 2011)

The Design Exchange (DX), Canada's National Design Centre and Museum is calling all designers and business' across Canada to submit their projects for the Design Exchange Awards. In its 20th year, the annual awards ceremony is Canada's premiere design competition that calls for both national and international design works by Canadians to be submitted for industry recognition. Early-bird submission is July 4, 2011 with final submission deadline for September 30, 2011.

Winners will be announced in a gala event on November 22 and showcased in a major exhibition at the DX attended by approximately 25,000 people each year. They will also be featured in a special 20th anniversary catalogue to be distributed to prime institutions around the world. The best in show will be listed in their 2012 DX Program Guide and considered for accession into the DX Permanent Collection.

The Design Exchange Awards (DXA's) promote Canadian design excellence and recognize the critical role of design in all types of organizations including commercial entities, not-for-profit organizations and the public sector. The Awards celebrate the success stories achieved through close partnerships between clients and designers. Renowned design leaders establish winners by results balancing function, aesthetics and economic success judge submitted projects.

The competition is open to the following 14 categories:

-ARCHITECTURE - COMMERCIAL: Public and corporate structures

-ARCHITECTURE - RESIDENTIAL: Private residences

-ENGINEERING: Building technology, chemical, civil, electrical and computer (including software), environmental, mechanical, product, structural, transportation, new materials

-APPAREL/FASHION DESIGN: Textiles, footwear, jewelry and accessories, uniforms, outerwear, safety gear, etc.

-INDUSTRIAL DESIGN: Industrial products produced for industry and/or consumer products available to the public

-INTERIOR DESIGN - COMMERCIAL: Retail, public and corporate interiors

-INTERIOR DESIGN - RESIDENTIAL: Private interiors

-INTERIOR DESIGN - TEMPORARY or PORTABLE: Set, theatre, exhibit, showrooms and model suites

-LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE: Commercial, residential and public landscapes

-URBAN DESIGN: Streetscapes, Infrastructure projects, master plans, Interventions

-VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS - BRAND and IDENTITY*: Marketing, way-finding, packaging, corporate identity

-VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS - DIGITAL*: Websites, information graphics, online ads, interfaces, kiosks, touch-screen devices, digital magazines, email newsletters, motion design animations, film titles, typography on screen, interstitial sequences, identity packages, etc.

-VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS - PRINT*: Brochures, annual reports, packaging, printed promotional items, posters, books, periodicals (magazines, newsletters, journals, etc.), letterhead systems

*Visual Communications categories co-presented with RGD Ontario

-Special Platinum Award (by Nomination)
CANADIAN COMPANY OR CEO WITH THE BEST DESIGN STRATEGY
The CEO with the Best Design Strategy will be the leader of an organization that uses design and innovation as a major component of its business strategy.
